Diane Gilbert (Parker, CO)

I have always believed that everyone is responsible for their own happiness, however, life threw me a big curveball in the form of my husband contracting leukemia not once but twice. Although he received a life saving stem cell transplant the side effects resulted in the need for him to retire on disability. With this life changing event I quit my personal training business and we resolved to enjoy our retirement as his health permitted. Looking for something to fill my new blocks of time, I started to explore hobbies that might interest me. Ultimately, I decided to give stained glass a try, as I was attracted to the bright and 'sunny' aspect of the glass. I purchased tools, joined stained glass tip pages and watched YouTube videos and taught myself the basics. I began with small simple sun catcher patterns that had been drawn by other artists, and I progressed to large, detailed patterns! I got better! I became obsessed! Then I began to create my own patterns, and an artist was born! I began to feel more like my old self, my sense of creativity and fun had a new place to come to life. My current collection of "glass ladies", reflects both my growth as an artist and my personal interpretation of “creating your own happiness”. They bring me great joy, I hope they give you a little also!
